Naturalization

Legal Permanent Residents who have been continuously residing in the US for 5 years after obtaining Legal Permanent Resident Status may apply for citizenship. In the case where the residency has been obtained through marriage to a US citizen, the period drops to 3 years if they are still married.

Applicants for citizenship must be physically present in the US for a least one half of the qualifying period and the periods of absence cannot last more than a continuous year, and in most cases, not more than 6 continuous months.  Additionally, absence from the US during the application period might endanger your application for naturalization.

During the qualifying period the applicant must be a person of good moral character.  Some criminal convictions might make you ineligible to become a US citizen. Please contact our office to determine if you are eligible to become a US citizen.
